'Jurassic World 2' News: Filming Officially Starts Ahead of 2018 Premiere

The sequel of "Jurassic World" has officially started filming, and lead actress Bryce Dallas Howard, who will reprise her role as Claire, tweeted a photo to announce her first day on set. The photo was captioned: "We have an asset out of containment. Put ACU on alert. This not a drill."

"Jurassic World 2" currently does not have an official title yet, but it is slated for a 2018 release date.

The plot details are still kept under wraps, but director Colin Trevorrow previously shared in an interview with Jurassic Outpost that the new installment will be "more suspenseful and scary."

"It's just the way it's designed; it's the way the story plays out," Trevorrow said. However, the producer also emphasized that this does not mean that the movie will have "bigger, better dinosaurs."

The upcoming sequel also has a new director onboard, and it would be Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona, who directed the horror-thriller "The Orphanage" in 2007. "I knew I wanted Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skill set," Trevorrow added.

Trevorrow also confirmed that the upcoming movie will just be filmed in the United Kingdom, but the actual events are not taking place there. "So, no dinosaurs rampaging through London," he said.

Aside from Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt will also reprise his role from the first "Jurassic World" installment as Owen. Actors confirmed to play new roles for the sequel are James Cromwell ("The Sum Of All Fears"), Ted Levine ("The Silence of the Lambs"), Toby Jones ("Captain America: The First Avenger"), Rafe Spall ("Life of Pi"), Justice Smith ("Paper Towns"), and Daniella Pineda ("Newlyweds").

The first "Jurassic World" was released in 2015 and generated a total of $1.6 billion in revenue, which made it the second highest-earning film of that year.

"Jurassic World 2" is expected to hit theaters by June 22, 2018.
