Justin Bieber breaks Guinness World Record with new single

Justin Bieber has officially broken the Guinness World Records for the youngest male artist to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 on Thursday.

On the morning of Sept. 10, Justin Bieber sang at the "Today" show in New York City wherein the hosts handed him a Guinness World Records plaque. The young singer has officially become the youngest male artist to debut at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with his song "What Do You Mean?," according to Billboard.

Representatives of the Guinness World Records were present at the Today show to award the silver plaque. After the hosts gave the award, Bieber, who did not expect it, sang "Where Are U Now" and "Boyfriend" for his loyal fans, UPI reports.

Billboard said What Do You Mean? is the 23rd song in 57 years to debut at no. 1 on its Hot 100 chart. Nielsen Music also said the single was downloaded more than 335,000 times in its first week alone. In 2012, Bieber's Boyfriend took the second spot on the same chart, the report details.

In an interview later with Today, Bieber sat down to address some questions thrown at him. When asked about his hiatus from his musical career, Bieber said he had to go "soul-searching."

"I didn't leave, but I took some time to do some soul-searching," Billboard quotes Bieber's statement to Today.

The young artist also expressed his interest in doing a Super Bowl Halftime Show performance if he would be invited. When asked about Taylor Swift performing at the Super Bowl, he said it would be a "great" idea, the report relays.

Bruno Mars reportedly received an invitation from the NFL to perform for the Super Bowl 50. As of now, Justin Bieber is working on a yet untitled album, his first in the span of three years. The upcoming album is due to be released on Nov. 13.
