Justin Bieber, 18-year-old Canadian crooner, was once a victim of bullying, the young singer has revealed.
Bieber, the boyfriend of entertainer Selena Gomez, recently opened up about being bullied in school. The singer told HLN TV that many times the bullying went unaddressed.
"A lot of the time, principals let it go, teachers let it go, other students just let it go," Bieber told HLN. "If you're a bystander, too, tell somebody, because a lot of times, it's just not spoken of, and you ended up keeping it all inside, and it just hurts even more."
Still, he admitted that many people have gone through similar experiences.
"I was bullied. Most people in their lifetime have been at some point," Bieber said. "I think it's about time that people start making a change."
Bieber has been supporting the documentary "Bully," which sheds light on the issue taking place in America.
"I think ['Bully'] is really powerful and can help change a lot of lives," Bieber said.
Bieber decided to lend his voice to a song featured in the documentary called "Born to Be Somebody."
After watching the film that premiered in various theaters on March 30, Bieber took to his Twitter account to speak about the inspiration it had given him, and urged witnesses of bullying to speak up and help protect victims of the act.
"Just watched the #BULLY movie. really intense," Bieber tweeted. "Really powerful. We need to stand up for each other."
Although the bullying film first premiered in March, it will make its rounds in numerous cities throughout the month of April.
