Kansas City Chiefs Center Mitch Morse Avoids Surgery, Sidelined for Several Weeks

Things looked bad when starting center Mitch Morse was spotted wearing a cast and walking on crutches after he injured his left foot in the fourth quarter of their game against the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday. However, it appears that the Kansas City Chiefs managed to dodge a bullet because the injury isn't serious after all.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Morse is expected to miss a few weeks of action due to a sprained foot, but he doesn't have to go under the knife to repair the injury. The Kansas City Star's Terez A. Paylor has also reported that he will miss a few games with the foot injury.

Chiefs fans had a reason to feel nervous when Morse went down with the foot injury. The team already lost two important players in safety Eric Berry and running back Spencer Ware this season. Losing Morse for a long period of time would have been a huge blow for them.

The third-year pro has been the team's anchor in the middle of the offensive line since they selected him in the second round of the 2015 draft and he's been a major part of their success early this season.

Zach Fulton will have to step up while Morse recovers from the injury. The fourth-year pro replaced Morse at center when he got hurt in the game against the Eagles and he did a solid job.

"I don't know how many teams have a backup center option they like but Fulton is more than capable of handling a multi-week stretch at center. If he goes down, I assume Cam Erving, who played some center in Cleveland, would be up next. The Chiefs also have Parker Ehinger to step into Fulton's backup guard duties," Joel Thorman said in his column for Arrowhead Pride.
