Rihanna reportedly ended her relationship with Chris Brown over his ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran, it has been claimed.
The Bajan singer, 25, allegedly cut ties with Brown, 24, after he was spotted spending time with Tran, 25, at his friend DJ ProStyle's birthday party, which was held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.
"When Chris was in NYC celebrating a friend's birthday, Rihanna found out that Karrueche was in town. She found out that they met up and saw each other and so she dumped Chris," a source told HollywoodLife.com.
Brown, who celebrated his birthday on May 5, was seen partying with Tran while Rihanna was nowhere in sight.
"Rihanna was supposed to take some time and go to Vegas for his birthday before that all happened," the source explained. "Chris is back with his ex-girl and Rihanna is single."
Shortly after the split, the Grammy award-winning singers took to social networking site Twitter where they posted separate messages regarding their relationship woes.
"Settling is not an option! Nothing less than 100% loyalty, honesty, and respect!! Love ain't for kidz #butimsleeptho," Rihanna tweeted on May 7.
Brown wasted no time responding to Rihanna's candid tweet, writing "Sometimes loving someone is too much! So loving from a distance will help everyone grow! Be blessed. Live ya life!"
Brown recently confirmed his split from Rihanna during an interview with Australian radio hosts Kyle & Jackie O Show.
"The way I look at it is, I'm always going to love that person, but people have differences, and people have different wants and needs, at the end of the day she's a young girl," he said.
"I can't really be focused on wife-ing somebody that young, and I'm young too," he added.
Meanwhile Tran, who dated Brown for two years after his 2009 split from Rihanna, is said to be hoping for a reconciliation with the singer. Brown admittedly ended his relationship with Tran over Rihanna in October.
"That's her dearest friend, her ex and yes, she loves him. I know she would love to be back with him but it's probably not the right time, not right now," a source revealed. "I think Chris needs some time to, as he says, do him and really focus on himself. Karrueche will always be there for Chris."
