Kate Bosworth Wants to Join NBC 'Blue Crush' Reboot

NBC is producing a reboot of the 2002 surf film "Blue Crush" starring Kate Bosworth. And the actress wants in on the TV adaptation.

"Blue Crush" is currently in its early stages of development, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.

Bosworth, who starred in the original film, is thrilled that the inspirational story of empowerment continues. And she would love to reprise her role and continue her character's story, she told InStyle.

"That's something that will always be in my life, and I would love to continue with my character's story. Absolutely," she said.

Though the actress admitted that the last time she surfed was a few years ago when she brought her husband Michael Polish to Hawaii to meet her "Blue Crush" costars. That was the last time she touched a surfboard.

Michelle Rodriguez, Brian Keaulana, and Sanoe Lake worked with Bosworth for the 2002 movie.

Much like the original flick, NBC's reboot will be a story of female empowerment in the beautiful island of Hawaii. Following a devastating accident, a surfer will strive to regain her life back. She will revive her career while trying to save her community from commercialism and shady surf politics.

"Countless times girls and particularly the mothers of young girls will say, 'My daughter decided to do something because she saw Blue Crush and now she's trying to fulfill her dream.' It's the most fulfilling feeling in the world to me," Bosworth admitted.

The show will be produced and penned by Hannah Schneider, the person behind NBC's historical drama "Reign."

Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo, and Jillian Kugler will be executive producing the TV adaptation.

The 2002 film was a surprise hit, grossing more than $51 million dollars worldwide on a budget of $25 million. A sequel came out in 2011 but was unrelated to the first film
