Katie Holmes Shines at Fashion Week

Katie Holmes has established herself as a leading designer after debuting her label Holmes & Yang at New York Fashion Week on Wednesday.

The newly single actress donned a black leather blazer and gold beaded-heels as she greeted fans at the fashion event, which was lined with fellow celebrities.

Holmes, 31, gave a preview of the latest collection for the fashion line at Lincoln Center. She established Holmes & Yang in 2009 with her stylist, Jeanne Yang, who was also present during the show.

Following her recent split from Tom Cruise, Holmes' fashion line has seen a surge in sales.

"This is a big deal for Katie to show in tents, under the full attention of the fashion editors and the glare of the media scrutiny," explained a source close to Holmes, according to The New York Post.

Many stars have made the transition into becoming a designer before Holmes, including the Kardashian sisters, Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum, and Jennifer Lopez, among many others.

Only a handful of celebrity designers have really struck it big in the fashion world though.

"The lines that are successful are very authentic," Susan Kaufman, editor-in-chief of People StyleWatch, told the Associated Press. "The key is the celebrity being involved, being involved in the look and the concept, and to be proud to wear the clothes."

While Wednesday was the first New York Fashion Week for the line, Holmes & Yang is sold at Barney's New York.

The label displayed clothing along with Victoria Beckham, and friend of Holmes', over the course of the week. The former Spice Girl's two lines, Victoria Beckham and Victoria Victoria Beckham, have already solidified a place in the fashion industry with critical acclaim.

The singer-turned-designer has also earned praise from fashion giants including Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld. Moreover, Beckham took home the prestigious British Fashion Award.
