Katie Holmes was reportedly forced to sign a confidentiality agreement as part of the terms of her divorce settlement with Tom Cruise.
Although Holmes, 33, was given primary custody of their 6-year-old daughter Suri, the actress has been prohibited from discussing details about the divorce deal, according to the Daily Mirror U.K.
"Confidentiality was the key. If Katie hadn't signed up to remain silent it could have become a very messy legal battle," a source told the Mirror.
The contract, which the source described as being "incredibly detailed," also reportedly prevents Holmes from discussing her marriage to Cruise, and anything with regards to his personal life and religious beliefs, according to Bay News BRK.
It is unclear why Cruise, 50, has silenced Holmes but some critics have begun suspecting whether the "Rock Of Ages" actor has something to hide.
The father of three was reportedly blindsided when Holmes filed to end their 5-year marriage on June 28, but he willingly cooperated during the divorce proceedings and subsequently the divorce was finalized just days later.
Although Cruise had previously planned for Suri to follow the same Scientology-based upbringing as his adopted children Isabella and Connor, he agreed to keep her away from the religion as part of the settlement terms and also agreed to strict visitation rights. It's a move which critics say confirms his eagerness to keep his ex-wife quiet, and have the divorce over and done with.
"Katie insisted that Suri's nanny and bodyguards always accompany her when she visits Tom. Katie did this for several reasons. This will ensure a smooth and easy transition for Suri when she is with Tom," a source told Radar Online.
"Suri is Katie's number one priority. Tom only has Scientologists that work for him and Katie insisted that her staff will always be with their daughter. Under terms of the settlement, Suri isn't permitted to be exposed to anything Scientology related and this includes going to any Scientology churches, parties, etc. Katie made sure that this was ironclad in the agreement," the insider added.
Holmes is said to have signed a pre-nuptial agreement upon marrying Cruise, which protects the majority of his estimated $350 million fortune. The actor could still be subject to paying up to 7 percent of his annual earnings in child support.
