Katy Perry Opens 'Roar' Challenge Ahead of Album Release

Katy Perry is promoting her upcoming album "Prism" and made an "important announcement" on "Good Morning America" on Friday morning.

The new album has not yet been released, but it has already garnered a number-one hit song, "Roar," which went platinum last week.

In light of the song's success, Perry is issuing a challenge to high schools across America to submit their best "Roar" on video, and the winner will receive a free performance by the singer on her birthday during the week of her album release.

Perry will be celebrating her 29th birthday on Oct. 25, and her performance at the winning school will be filmed live on "GMA."

While on "GMA," the chart-topping singer explained that "Prism" represents a "dark" growth period she endured.

The 28-year-old "Firework" singer also recently discussed the challenges that led up to her forthcoming album while speaking to Vogue magazine.

"Of course I get fazed," Perry admitted of her widespread fame that includes six Billboard no. 1 hits on her "Teenage Dream" album alone.

"When I am in between records, sometimes I doubt myself," she added, according to the magazine. "I'll be like, 'Did I just get lucky, or did I mass-manipulate the world into thinking that seven songs were worth the number-one position?'"

Despite the fleeting doubts and fears, Perry said being immersed in her work always inspires the comeback of confidence.

"And then I go back into the studio and I start writing, and the true essential oil of who I am comes bubbling back up and reminds me that it's always been inside of me, that nobody can take this away no matter what comment anyone makes," the singer ascertained. "It's going to be there because it's what I was born with and it's what I've worked on my whole life."

"Prism" marks Perry's fourth studio album, and it will be available on Oct. 22.
