Kim and Kanye Wedding Update: Civil Ceremony This Week, North West is Flower Girl (PHOTO)

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West will exchange vows in the U.S. this week ahead of their May 24 wedding in France.

The Hollywood couple will have a civil ceremony in Southern California in the coming days before going on to host a lavish wedding in France because French law reportedly requires a 40-day residency before any wedding can take place. One party is expected to reside in France for a little over a month in order to fulfill French legal requirements.

"Kim and Kanye were unaware until recently that France required a residency requirement prior to marriage," a source told Radar Online.

"Kanye has an apartment in Paris, but he doesn't live there full-time," the insider explained. "So just to make sure it's legal, Kim and Kanye will first be having a civil ceremony in Southern California."

Kardashian, 33, was recently photographed scouting the grounds of Chateau Louis XIV, located 14 miles outside of Paris in Louveciennes, which closely resembles a 17th century castle despite having been built six years ago. This has led to speculation that she and West will host their wedding there.

"They will have a civil ceremony to acquire their marriage license [in the US]," a source told E! News.

The wedding, which will reportedly be filmed for Kardashian's reality TV show, will mark the reality TV star's third marriage and West's first.

"Kim will be wearing white although its her third wedding. She's getting her dress custom made [and] she will have one dress change ... that dress will not be white," TV personality Chloe Melas said on VH1's "The Gossip Table."

"Baby North is going to be the flower girl. Even though she wont be walking at that point I guess they're going to carry her down the aisle," she revealed.

In a recent interview the reality TV star revealed that she and West, 36, are planning a "small" wedding despite reports claiming otherwise. The couple are expected to fly a select number of close friends and family to Paris for their big day.

"We're having a super, super small, intimate wedding. As we go along, we're realizing we want it to be smaller and more intimate than people are imagining and thinking," Kardashian told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM radio show on Feb. 25.
