Following the success of his film "Monumental," Kirk Cameron has opened up about hot-button issues in politics today.
Released to DVD recently, Cameron highlights the work of the pilgrims who founded what we know today as the United States of America. "Monumental" went on to become the most successful release of all time from Camfam Studios.
Well known for his role on the 1990s sitcom "Growing Pains," Cameron has maintained his celebrity throughout the years and has cemented himself as an important voice for Christianity.
Cameron's findings while making "Monumental" have shaped his feelings toward today's politics, and CP was able to hear the actor's opinions on issues such as religious freedom the 2012 presidential race.
"Religious liberty is always in danger of being lost," explained Cameron. "Because it's ultimately about people's authority and who they will listen to, will I listen to the government or my God or will I listen to myself or my friends or my political group. And so, religious liberties are always threatening to other groups and so they will try to take them away."
The actor went on to describe his impression of the pilgrims as being such successful leaders.
"They didn't allow themselves to just be silenced, they actually got off the defense, and had a loving attitude toward those who were oppressing them, and desire to being them freedom by taking a loving stand for what they believed it, and just living out their faith in their own lives knowing that it would produce such good things that others would be attracted, and would want to join them."
Moreover, Cameron explained this why he chooses not to endorse any 2012 presidential candidate.
"I have a set of conservative values, and I have turned on the news to learn … How important it is to vote, first of all, and we have so many people in our country who don't vote, and then how important it is to know who to vote for based on the things that history has shown really works," said the actor.
He continued to explain that faith in God, His Word, the principle of morality, and other key characteristics are essential qualities for a politician to have, and that he has not recognized a presidential candidate that is in line with those qualities yet.
