'Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur' News: Guy Ritchie Directing, Plot Details Revealed

Director Guy Ritchie recently tweeted about the first day of filming of his new film, "Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur" and shared some story details about the upcoming film as well. His tweet included a photo of himself with the movie's lead star Charlie Hunnam of "Sons of Anarchy."

In Warner Brothers' take on the legend of the Knights of the Round Table, Arthur's back story is a bit different. According to a report in Empire Online, the movie's official synopsis talks about Arthur as "a streetwise young Arthur who runs the back alleys of Londonium with his gang, unaware of the life he was born for until he grasps hold of the sword Excalibur – and with it, his future."

He is forced to join the Resistance where he meets "a mysterious young woman named Guinevere." His challenges include mastering the sword, facing his own demons and uniting the people to defeat Vortigern the tyrant. Vortigern is also responsible for his parents' murder.

Vortigern will be played by British actor Jude Law, while Astrid Bergès-Frisbey of "Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides" will play Guinevere. Eric Bana plays Arthur's father Uther Pendragon, while Djimon Hounsou will play one of the knights close to Arthur, Sir Bedivere. Other cast members include Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt, who is said to play a villain working with Vortigern; Annabelle Wallis is said to play a character name Maid Maggie and "Game of Thrones" star Aiden Gillen was also cast for a yet unknown role.

Warner Brothers' "re-imagining" of the legend of the Knights of the Round Table is said to span six films, with "King Arthur" as the first one. It is unclear if Guy Ritchie will also be involved in the next films. Joby Harold penned the script. The future of the series, according to another Empire Online report, is dependent on the success of the first film. Both Harold and Ritchie are said to have plans for a six-film franchise based on the stories of Arthur and company.
