Lamar Odom may have decided to attend rehab after recently being arrested for a DUI and making headlines for alleged drug use.
Odom, the 33-year-old NBA free agent and husband to reality television star Khloe Kardashian-Odom, has been the subject of media reports speculating about his marriage being on the rocks if he did not decide to enroll himself a rehabilitation facility. Now, People magazine is reporting that the basketball player has done just that.
"He realized he needs help," a source told People of Odom's decision to check himself into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.
Last month, TMZ reported that Kardashian-Odom, 29, asked her husband to leave their home until he decided to get professional help to treat his issues with addiction.
Odom has previously revealed that he had a harsh upbringing including facing the death of his mother when he was just 12 and having a father who was a heroin addict.
"My father's a heroin addict," Odom said during an episode of the reality television show with his wife, "Khloe & Lamar." "I had my mother around until I was 12 years old when she passed away and after that my father wasn't around ... I witnessed things that a 10-year-old definitely wasn't supposed to see."
The free agent seems to have the support of his fellow NBA players. Kevin Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder forward, was recently questioned about players in the league supporting Odom during his tough times.
"Yea no doubt," Durant told TMZ reporters last month. "It's a brotherhood."
John Wall, the Washington Wizards point guard, seemed to express the same support for Odom amid media speculation.
"I just hope he figures it out," Wall told TMZ. "That's it."
Odom averaged 4.0 points and 5.9 rebounds in 82 games for the Clippers last season.
His agent Jeff Schwartz insisted that he is still planning to continue his professional basketball career.
"Playing in the NBA is still very much a part of Lamar's plans," Schwartz told ESPN.
