Lamborghini Huracan Performante Release Date, Specs News: Lightweight Sports Car's Performance on Nurburgring Teased

The Huracan Performante is touted to be the fastest vehicle that Lamborghini has ever developed and as such, it is no surprise that the newest teaser for the upcoming track-focused supercar shows that it is capable of handling one of the most challenging race tracks in the world.

The latest teaser shows the Huracan Performante as it took on the Nürburgring race track on Oct. 5, 2016. Lamborghini has not released any performance numbers yet but the Italian luxury sports car manufacturer claims that the Huracan Performante attained the highest performance on the track. Currently, the Porsche 918 Spyder holds the record for fastest lap with 6 minutes and 57 seconds.

According to Motor Trend, the Performante will most likely use an enhanced version of the 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine used by the Huracan sports car. It originally delivers 602 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. It can also go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in just 2.8 seconds.

The Performante is expected to be much faster as its powertrain will reportedly produce around 625 to 640 horsepower and 453 pound-feet of torque.

To deliver this kind of performance, the upcoming supercar is said to be equipped with a recalibrated seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, an enhanced suspension and a new exhaust system. It will also feature new and innovative active aerodynamics called Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA), which uses electric motors to open and close air ducts to minimize lift and maximize downforce.

The Huracan Performante is also lighter by about 90 pounds due to the use of new forged carbon fiber composite components that is said to be revolutionary.

"I can tell you we discovered something that is big news, it doesn't exist [yet], we invented it," Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini's head of research and development, told Motoring last month.

According to a teaser, Lamborghini's Forged Composites is a new material that is light, strong, shapeable and attractive.

Lamborghini is expected to unveil the Huracan Performante online on Thursday, Feb. 23. The track-focused sports car will then make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
