'Law and Order: SVU' Season 17 Episode 16 Spoilers: Benson Tackles Questionable Sexual Assault Case Of A Celebrity

NBC's hit police procedural drama TV series "Law and Order: Special Victim's Unit" Season 17 returns this week with a brand new episode that will find Lieutenant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her band of Special Victims Unit operatives handling a sexual assault case involving a television personality.

According to the synopsis shared over at The Futon Critic for the episode titled "Star-struck Victims," District Attorney Barba (Raul Esparza) will have to drop a rape charge against a popular actor due to the lack of evidence.

The promo video revealed a young woman trying to convince Benson and the SVU that she was sexually harassed by the said actor. Viewers, however, may notice that Benson might be having some doubts about the woman's claims especially - as a man explained to her at one point in the video - since some people are always playing the rape card to extort money from famous figures.

"Do you believe me?" the girl who claims to be a victim asked Benson.

To make things worse, the TFC summary indicates that Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) will decide to take matters into her own hands. Perhaps the SVU department isn't convinced about the girl's story which eventually frustrates the aforementioned officer. What exactly will she do about the case? Will she resort to making some moves that are outside the bounds of the law? How will Lt. Benson and DA Barba react to her insistence?

Fans of the series may already know how "Law and Order: SVU" often drops some shocking twists at the end. Speculations indicate that perhaps the suspected celebrity has an impersonator who was responsible for the lascivious act, just like what happened in one of the past SVU episodes this season. Or it could be that the woman is just after the money.

Regardless of which, these events will eventually unfold when "Law and Order: SVU" Season 17 Episode 16 premieres this Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 9 p.m. on NBC.
