'Law & Order: SVU' Season 16 Spoilers, Cast News: Mariska Hartigay Talks About Character

Spoiler reports suggest that this week's showing of the hit police-procedural TV drama series "Law & Order: SVU" Season 16 will feature a game convention getting turned into a crime scene when the SVU team was sent to investigate an assault. What was intended to be a fun-filled event turns into a day of chaos and confusion.

A full synopsis was provided by The Futon Critic where it reads:

"Video game developer, Raina Punjabi (guest star Mouzam Makkar), will solidify the launch of her first game amid a stream of online insults, intimidation and death threats from the male-dominated gaming community. When a female employee is assaulted at a gamer convention, Detective Tutuola (Ice-T) will investigate the crime, but Raina is going to refuse to delay the launch, and the cops will have to 'level up' to protect her."

Actress Mariska Hargitay recently spoke about her character, who has been an inspiration to her fans. Playing the 16th Precinct NYPD detective Olivia Benson, Hargitay explained why people look up to her character.

"I think people are drawn to Olivia because she's built to protect, and she makes us feel safe. She'll take care of you emotionally, she'll take care of you physically, and then she'll go and pop the guy who did the injustice. She's just a total bada--," she told News.au.

When asked how long she'll wear Benson's badge, the 51-year-old star replied:

"Who knows? I mean, when my kids look at me, and say, 'Mommy, are you going to work again?' That makes it hard — we work long hours, but I still love what I do. I just make them give me a few longer breaks these days."

"The show wouldn't exist without her," SVU showrunner Warren Leight said about Hargitay. "I can say that plain and simple. The show survived Chris [Meloni] leaving, but it wouldn't survive her leaving."

"Law & Order: SVU" Season 16 Episode 14 "Intimidation Game" airs this Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 9 p.m. on NBC.
