LG G4 Release Date, Specs Rumors: Expectations Still High Despite No Show at MWC 2015

The LG G3 was a surprise hit last year, and many thought that surely, the phone's next version is sure to be even better given that the G3 continues to be a powerful and reliable device. While the LG G Flex 2 was released this year, the LG G4 was a no-show at MWC 2015.

A report by The Chosun claims that an LG exec ruled out the phone's release at the Barcelona event, saying "We rolled out the G3 in May last year so we do not plan to unveil the G4 at this year's Mobile World Congress and spend more time perfecting the new phone."

However, there are speculations that the phone could be released next month. A source from the The Korea Times says that April is the month that the LG G4 will be rolled out.

"Samsung usually releases its new flagship model in the first quarter of each year, and Apple in the second quarter," said the source. "We need some in-between time to make a bigger splash."

As for what the new device will look like, a leaked image of the G4 via @OnLeaks shows the phone with the same RearKey buttons below the camera, and the rear cover appears to be removable, just like the one found on the G3. The curved shape also suggests that the G4 might have a curved screen similar to that on the G Flex 2.

While the G3 impressed with its 2K screen, the G4 is expected to have a 3K display with a resolution of 1620 x 2880 pixels and eye-watering pixel density count of 601ppi. The device is said to have LG's own Nuclun octa-core processor and run on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The G4 is also rumored to have an improved 16MP camera.

The LG G4 is expected to cost $750 off contract once it goes on sale.
