LG Watch Urbane Android Smartwatch Release Date, Specs and Features News: LG Unveils Device

LG recently announced the release of their new smartwatch, the LG Watch Urbane, Sunday, months before the Berlin IFA in September this year.

Korean electronics and telecom conglomerate, LG unveiled its premium smartwatch on Feb. 15, jumping the gun on the International Franchise Association's (IFA) Berlin trade show for consumer electronics and appliances on Sept. 4.

The Urbane is described as a high-end predominantly metal Android fashion statement that's rumored to be LG's answer to the Apple Watch.

The Urbane is touted to be the company's upgraded version of their LG Watch R, and while the latter targeted users looking to level up their fitness regimen, the Urbane's market is comprised of "sophisticated and cosmopolitan" timepiece enthusiasts who value traditional design and classic construction.

The Urbane's internal specifications are similar to the LG Watch R, it runs on a Qualcomm-powered APQ8026, a quad core version of Cortex-A7 SoC on a 1.2 Ghz frequency. It also features 512MB of RAM, 4GB of NAND, and an Adreno 305 graphics card.

As with the LG Watch R, the Urbane maintains its IP67 rating for water submersion of 30 minutes in depths of up to one meter, a current standard in all LG watches. With a circular 1.3-inch 320 x 320 circular display in flexible plastic OLED material, it boasts of a premium build featuring a thinner bezel surrounding its display, and a stainless steel body attached to a contrast-stitched leather strap in black and dark brown variants.

LG has yet to release its price point for the LG Watch Urbane, or when it will be available for sale in the market, but with the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona beginning March 2, fans of LG Android wearables may be able to glean information on the release date and price details of the Urbane soon.
