"We're really glad that Square Enix (the game publisher) have decided to give the first episode away for free so more players can begin their journey and see why people have fallen in love with the game for themselves," said Dontnod CEO Oskar Guilbert .

Other episodes of "Life is Strange" include "Episode 2: Out of Time," "Episode 3: Chaos Theory," "Episode 4: Dark Room" and "Episode 5: Polarized."

What to Expect With 'Life is Strange'

"Life is Strange" is a five-part episodic graphic adventure video game wherein players take the role of a budding high school photographer named Max Caulfield. While saving her best pal Chloe Price, the protagonist discovered that she has the ability to turn back time and alter the past. The interactive drama about friendship and coming of age will take players to the Arcadia Bay to join Caulfield and Price in uncovering the mystery behind the disappearance of another student named Rachel Amber.

According to The Verge, most parts of the award-winning video game involved conversations with people and witnessing events. It will also challenge players to make vital and emotional decisions that could affect the flow of the story.

How The First Episode of "Life is Strange" Fared

"Life is Strange Episode 1: Chrysalis" was launched in January last year, gaining mostly positive reviews. Although the video game was criticized for its use of dialogue, most gamers commended the video game because of its characters and storyline.

A review by PlayStation Lifestyle stated that the video game is worth playing because of its realistic and relatable characters, as well as its artsy graphics and music. The review also lauded the video game for its numerous mysteries that are exciting and engaging.

"Life is Strange" is not the first interactive video game that offered its first episode for free. The first episodes of "King's Quest," "Game of Thrones," "Tales From the Borderlands" and "Resident Evil Revelations 2" were also made available without any charge.
