Both teams have played 26 games to this point, so if City lose today it would hand Chelsea the chance to move 8 points clear with just 11 games of the season to go. Not many would believe that Chelsea would drop so many points for City to recover that gap over the less than a dozen games.

In team news for Liverpool, Philippe Coutinho will be available having been rested against Besiktas. However, Jordan Henderson is a big doubt, and he will have to have his ankle injury checked before a final decision is made on his fitness.

For City, Yaya Toure is back after missing the Manchester team's Champions League game in the week through suspension.

Wilfried Bony could make his first start for City after coming on off the bench last weekend.
