'Longmire' Season 5 Confirmed; Netflix Commends Hit Show's Strong Performance

"Longmire" season 5 will finally become a reality after Netflix hailed the show for its good performance during its fourth season.

Just one month into season 4, Netflix already announced that "Longmire" will be renewed for season 5 because they are happy with the show's ratings. Ted Sarandos, the Head of Content Acquisition of Netflix, hailed the performance of the series during the Television Critics Association's press winter tour, according to Christian Today.

It can be remembered that "Longmire," which was aired on A&E from season 1 to 3, was canceled in August 2014, despite its high-flying ratings and reviews. The network explained that the series did not reach their target demographics. A&E wanted to lure in a younger audience, but the show instead attracted viewers belonging to the higher demography, Day Herald explains.

Due to insistent demand from its fans, Warner Horizon Television looked for another venue where "Longmire" can be aired. When Netflix picked up the show in late 2014, the streaming firm began gaining more mature subscribers, and these new customers may continue to stick with the service provider even after season 5 ends, the report details.

Greer Shepherd, the show's executive producer for season 5, has thanked Netflix for putting importance on the number of viewers watching the show regardless of their demography, the report adds.

While the series is flying high right now, season 5 may mark the last installment of the show. Netflix still has not confirmed this piece of news, but there is a good chance that fans will see the last of Walt Longmire during the finale of the fifth season.

Meanwhile, the storyline of "Longmire" season 5 is still unknown, and the cast members for the upcoming season also remain under wraps. However, Robert Taylor is expected to return for his role as Walt Longmire in the next installment.

As of now, "Longmire" season 5 still has no exact release date, but the show is expected to premiere in September 2016 on Netflix.
