Los Angeles Rams Roster News, Rumors: Free Agent Cornerback Coty Sensabaugh Agrees to Three-year Deal

When Janoris Jenkins bolted the Los Angeles Rams to join the Giants in New York, it was up to management to look for an able replacement; which they did by signing former Titans starter Coty Sensabaugh.

ESPN reports that the deal inked by the cornerback and the Rams is for three years and is worth almost $15 million, but can reach up to $19 million in incentives. The signing means that the team will now have a couple of cornerbacks at their disposal – Sensabaugh and E.J. Gaines, who is making an anticipated comeback from an injury which forced him to miss the entirety of last season. Both players will be sharing and competing for the outside cornerback position while Trumaine Johnson is a fixture for the other cornerback spot, but Gaines may have the upper hand considering that he once occupied this position before getting injured.

The 27-year old Sensabaugh was picked 20th in the fourth round by the Tennessee Titans in the 2012 NFL Draft. Although he had a productive rookie season, it was cut short by a foot injury that eventually sidelined him for the rest of that season. He came back and started in 15 games for the Titans last season, making two interceptions.

His acquisition by the Rams is partly attributed to the team's defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, who once served as the senior assistant defensive coach for the Titans back in 2013. ESPN noted that if he gives up the position to Gaines, he can be used to play nickelback – something he's familiar with when he played for Williams.

With the Titans, he was the regular nickelback while appearing in 59 games for the team in four seasons. But when Jason McCourty suffered a sports hernia, he was forced to take on a bigger role, to which he made the most of the opportunity.
