Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 Search Latest News: Police Official Says He Knows What Happened
An "astonishing claim" has been made by an Indonesian police official who says he knows what happened to the missing Malaysian Airlines Jet MH370. The claim was made during a meeting with airline officials, according to reports.
Police Chief General Sutarman allegedly made claims at a Friday meeting in Jakarta with a senior Lion Airlines official and representatives as well as other high-ranking police officers, The Mirror U.K. reported.
"I spoke with the Chief of Police of Malaysia Tun Mohammad Hanif Omar, I know what really happened with the MH370," Sutarman said in a statement.
General Sutarman declined to further elaborate on what he claims to know about the passenger plane. He also wouldn't speak on how the aircraft went missing with 239 people on board on March 8 en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur.
The Malaysian police official to which the general referred to has actually retired from the service way back 1994, according to Daily Mail.
The seat is now taken by Inspector General Khalid Abu Bakar who was said to be "shocked" by the claims told the media that he needs to speak with the Indonesian higher-ups to sort out the information being mentioned.
"It is possible General Sutarman is aware Mr Omar had retired but had simply not mentioned that when he referred to him," Indonesian news site Kompas reported.
Latest developments of the search indicated that the SAR team has found 58 "hard objects" in Indian Ocean. However, they have yet to verify if they are from the missing flight.
"We have only discovered 58 solid objects, but yet to learn if they are from (Malaysia Airlines) Flight MH370. We have to verify whether the objects are the plane's wreckage or hard rocks before coming to a conclusion," Malaysian transport minister Liow Tiong Lai said during a press conference last week.
