Malia Obama 16th Birthday Arrives, White House Celebrations Ensue

Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, is celebrating her 16th birthday this month.

The First Daughter of the United States of America was born on the same day that the country first gained its independence; July 4. While Malia's official birthday arrived on Friday, the newly-minted 16-year-old kicked off celebrations earlier in the week in Disneyland with a friend, according to E! News.

Furthermore, recent reports indicated that Michelle and Barack Obama got Malia a car for her birthday, since the teen has reached the legal driving age. However, in February, the First Lady issued a warning to drivers everywhere about her daughter's driving.

"They're counting down for summer [when there will be] volunteering, camp, internships," Obama said of her daughters Sasha and Malia, according to Access Hollywood.

"One child is going to be driving this summer," she added, referring to Malia. "Look out everyone!"

As for how the Obamas plan on teaching their eldest daughter to drive, Mrs. Obama assured, "We've got a plan!"

"We don't disclose the plan to the public," she said laughingly when asked if Secret Service agents would be riding in the backseat while Malia drives.

In the past, Michelle revealed that she nor the President will be permitted in the car with Malia driving lessons.

"I think our [Secret Service] agents don't want us driving with teenagers … Especially the president's detail," she said, according to USA Today. "I don't think they want him in the state when she's learning how to drive. We will fortunately be able to hand that responsibility over to someone else."

Meanwhile, birthdays in the Obama family are always marked with celebrations – including Michelle Obama's milestone 50th birthday earlier this year. The First Lady of the United States was born on January 17th, 1964. At the time of her 50th birthday, the Chicago, Illinois native said she feels more fabulous than ever.

"I have never felt more confidant in myself, more clear on who I am as a woman," Obama told Parade magazine.
