Malin Akerman Joins Network TV After Baby

Malin Akerman and her husband just welcomed their first child in April, but the busy actress still managed to make her debut on network television on Tuesday.

"The Heartbreak Kid" actress stars in ABC's new comedy "Trophy Wife" as Kate, a woman newly married to a twice-divorced older man with three children.

Akerman stars alongside Bradley Whitford, Marcia Gay Harden and Michaela Watkins.

Explaining the title of the television series, Akerman assured viewers that the show is not what they are expecting.

"From an outsider's point of view, people go: 'Oh, younger, cute woman with an older man, of course she's a trophy wife,'" the actress explained, according to The Associated Press. "But we learn that Kate is really this lovely woman who is in it for the right reasons. Loves the kids, loves her husband, but just isn't really good at it yet."

The Swedish-Candian starlet has appeared in comedy films such as "27 Dresses" and "Couples Retreat," among many others, but admitted that working those schedules was grueling.

"To be honest with you, I'd been going film for awhile, which I love… but I got to a certain point where there was one year where I was home maybe three months out of the whole year and I was like, 'You know what? I would love to just be home, be with my husband, be with my friends and just kind of have more of a regular schedule,'" said Akerman, according to AP.

Furthermore, as soon as she accepted the role as Kate on "Trophy Wife," the actress learned she was pregnant. Akerman and her husband Roberto Zincone are parents to son Sebastian.

"It was kind of perfect timing," she said.

"Trophy Wife" airs Tuesdays on ABC at 9:30 p.m. EST.

Meanwhile, Akerman made it no secret how she got back to her pre-baby form ahead of filming for "Trophy Wife" this year.

"It's a lot of working out and a really good diet," the actress said during the premiere of her movie "CBGB," according to E! News.

"A lot of really healthy food… I wish there was a magic pill you could just pop in," she added. "Pilates and cycling and hiking, that's pretty much my routine… and as often as possible!"
