A man has seemingly made up a sob story to earn himself a free pizza from popular chain restaurant Papa John's last week.

David Randall Lacey, 35, from Montana reportedly entered a local Papa John's pizza restaurant on Jan. 22 with a bandana over his head and demanded that he be given money from the cash register.

The employees quickly opened the cash register to comply with the demand. However, Lacey then stunned employees at the pizza restaurant when he suddenly broke down, Helena police have reported.

He started crying and telling the employee that he was desperate and needed the money to feed his hungry wife and kids. The desperate predicament of the man touched the hearts of the employees, who then offered the man a large pepperoni pizza an some chicken wings for free.

Lacey then proceeded to wait on the side as the calm employees made him his food fresh. Once done, they gave him the free food for his family and he left.

However, according to the Independent Record publication, an investigation into Lacey found that the man had no children in Helena. It is alleged that Lacey saw how little money was inside the cash register, and so decided he would change his tactic and make up a sob story to try and get some free food.

Reportedly there was only $24.56 inside the register when Lacey demanded the Papa John's employees empty it for him.

Police later picked up Lacey and the Papa John's employee identified him in a line up. He was then arrested on suspicion of felony robbery on Thursday, and remained in jail on Friday with a bail set at $25,000, according to The Associated Press.

Lacey has since tried to explain himself to police by saying that he was indeed desperate for the money, to buy food for himself, according to court documents.
