Manny Pacquiao Song Breaks Into Top Ten Charts

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, Filipino boxer and Congressman, made headlines this week when he broke the top ten secondary adult contemporary music charts.

Pacquiao originally released his rendition of singer Dan Hill’s “Sometimes When We Touch” in April. However, it managed to make its way to number seven on the U.S. adult contemporary charts on Wednesday, according to the Friday Morning Quarterback Report.

Hill reportedly reached out to Pacquiao, a congressman representing the province of Sarangani in the 15th Congress of the Philippines, after watching him perform the song on the Jimmy Kimmel television show in 2009, CBS news reports. The boxer agreed to record a single with Hill, who later became his friend.

Hill told USA Today that he is proud of Pacquiao’s musical accomplishments.

"Manny leaping from No. 11 to No. 7 on the Adult Contemporary secondary charts reminds us once more that there's nothing this man/boxer/congressman/singer is not capable of," said Hill. "I'm so proud to call him my friend and a major life inspiration."

Boxing Insider revealed that Pacquiao recorded the song in a Hollywood studio in between training time. The Filipino boxer recorded the song with Matthew McCauley and Fred Mollin, the same producers that made it rise to the charts in 1977.

Bob Arum, hall of fame boxing promoter, said he was amazed at Pacquiao’s ability to sing.

“What a man!” Arum said, according to Boxing Insider. “A champion in the boxing ring, in politics, now as a singer - what’s next for amazing Manny?”

Although fans of the boxer can watch Pacquiao fight during his next live broadcast fight scheduled to take place on Nov 12, they can also support his music career by purchasing “Sometimes When We Touch” on iTunes and Amazon.com.
