Mark Burnett's 'The Bible' Facebook Game Launched

March 12, 2013|4:32 pm

In the wake of record-breaking ratings, the History Channel's "The Bible" miniseries is being incorporated into a digital game thanks to Lightside Games, and will be available on Facebook, iPhone, and iPad.

The game, titled "Light the Way: The Bible," is described in a recent press release emailed to The Christian Post as a "hidden object" game which uses screen shots and music from "The Bible" miniseries to find hidden objects and solve puzzles.

Players use the game to follow the storyline of the miniseries while also sharing their progression with their friends using Facebook.

"Lightside Games clearly shares our passion for telling the timeless stories of the Bible in new, engaging yet accurate ways," Mark Burnett, well-known Hollywood producer of "The Bible" series, as well as "Survivor," "The Apprentice," and "The Voice," said in a recent press release by Lightside Games, which has previously produced two successful Bible-themed digital games.

"Lightside Games is the perfect partner to create a family-friendly tablet game based on our series 'The Bible,'" Burnett added.

The game, which has been described by RumorFix as "addictive," was launched yesterday on Facebook, and developers are reportedly hoping to make it available on iPhones and iPads in the near future.

"'Light the Way: The Bible' brings players into the events of the Bible in a fun way, and immerses them into the story," Lightside Games CEO Brent Dusing recently told The Blaze.

"Some people learn by hearing, some by reading, and others by doing. Playing is doing. We find so many people learn the stories of [the] Bible through playing the game," Dusing added.

Although the game is ideal for teenagers, Dusing added that it is designed to appeal to any age group, and is meant to draw people from around the world to the teachings of the Bible.

Lightside Games has previously created the Bible-themed games "Journey of Moses" and "Journey of Jesus: The Calling," which have attracted nearly 5 million players.

"The Bible" miniseries on the History Channel has seen widespread success since its premiere on March 3, drawing in a debut viewership of over 13 million, thus making it the most watched cable entertainment telecast of 2013.

The show managed to keep its high ratings in its second episode last Sunday, drawing in 10.8 million viewers nationwide, making it the most popular program in all of television that night.

The miniseries, which will end on Easter Sunday on March 31, follows major stories from the Bible, including the Exodus, Noah's ark, and Jesus' death and resurrection.
