Martin Family Shocked George Zimmerman Believes Killing Trayvon Was 'God's Plan'

George Zimmerman, Florida neighborhood watchman who allegedly murdered local teenager Trayvon Martin, spoke about praying for the slain boy's family recently, saying he felt that the entire ordeal "was all God's plan." The Martin family has expressed shock, with the teen's father wondering if he and Zimmerman "worship a different God."

In an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity that aired on Wednesday night, Zimmerman said he did not regret killing Martin and that he would pray for the family of the teenager he killed.

"I am sorry that they buried their child," Zimmerman told Hannity in his first public interview since news broke about him killing Martin. "I can't imagine what it must feel like. I pray for them daily."

While Zimmerman initially said he had no regrets, he later said that he was sorry about the situation.

"I do wish there was something, anything I could have done that wouldn't have put me in a position where I would have had to take a life," he said. "I do want to tell everyone I'm sorry that this happened. I hate to think that because of this incident, because of my actions, it has polarized, divided America. I'm truly sorry."

The neighborhood watchman also told Hannity, "I feel that it was all God's plan, and for me to second guess it or judge it."

However, Martin's father, Tracy, disagreed with the 28-year-old who is being charged with second-degree murder for the Feb 26 shooting of his son in Sanford, Fla.

"We must worship a different God," Tracy told The Associated Press. "There is no way that my God wanted George Zimmerman to murder my teenage son."

Sybrina Fulton, Martin's mother, echoed Tracy's sentiments when speaking to Matt Lauer on the "TODAY" show.

"I really think that's ridiculous,'' Fulton said. "I wish Trayvon was here to tell his side of the story. I don't believe that it's God's plan for him to kill an innocent teenager.''

Martin's parents also disputed claims made by Zimmerman in his interview with Hannity about the teenager making threats to take the former neighborhood watchman's life.

"Trayvon is a 17-year-old child, and I can't imagine him saying something like that,'' Fulton said. "He was frightened for his life.''

Benjamin Crump, Martin's family attorney, said Zimmerman's interview may prove to be valuable in court and prove that the killer of the teenager is lying.

"The state attorney is going to look at that interview that he did last night as a gift when they cross-examine him. It's just George Zimmerman's version," Crump said. "It's about his credibility, and I think everybody in America would say his credibility cannot be relied upon.''
