"A dangerous new alliance is formed as Coulson and Hunter turn to the last person anyone would expect – Grant Ward! As the war between S.H.I.E.L.D. factions continues, Skye and Lincoln will find themselves drawn into this conflict."

Meanwhile, a recent report posted on Deadline indicated two cast members of the ABC series, Adrienne Palicki and Nick Blood are now finalizing the deal to spearhead the reported S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff series.

Palicki plays the agency's undercover within HYDRA and is the ex-husband of Blood's Lance Hunter who joined S.H.I.E.L.D. at the beginning of Season 2.

According to the publication, the offshoot series, which is described as a "Mr. and Mrs. Smith-type of story," was developed by executive producer Jerry Bell and co-EP Paul Zbyszewski.

"ABC is not expected to make a formal greenlight call until the script comes in, with the hope being to be able to do that before the upfronts. The spinoff may film a promo or do a pilot. If it goes to series, I hear Zbyszewski is expected to serve as showrunner," the website said.

For the meantime, "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 2 episode 18 airs Tuesday on ABC.
