Mega Millions Winning Numbers for May 13: Jackpot Winner to Take Home $161 Million; How to Play and Other Information

On Friday, a total jackpot prize of $161 million will be awarded to whoever the balls of luck point to and hours before the numbers are drawn, hopeful lottery players are already busy saying their prayers.

On Tuesday, the jackpot was $150 million and unfortunately, no one took home the biggest pot. According to Oregon Live, the winning numbers for Tuesday, May 10, are as follows: 12 - 22 - 46 - 56 -74. The Mega Ball was 4, while the Megaplier was 3.

Mega Millions' official website also states that only two people won $1 million with no megaplier amount added, while there were 20 participants who took home $5,000. One of those who won $5,000 was able to take home the megaplier prize of $15,000.

Out 379 winners of $500, 39 gained the megaplier prize of $1,500 each, while the rest of the prizes ranging from $1 to $50 are now part of history.

Tickets cost $1 per play and there are six numbers from two separate pools of numbers. There are five various numbers from 1 to 75, and one number from 1 to 15. If all six picked numbers are matched with the drawn winning figures, the lottery player will win the jackpot.

The list of million-dollar winners has grown over the years and one of the winners, Roberto Tripodi of Valhalla, New York, recently shared his story to the company.

Tripodi won the $1 million second prize from the March 15, 2016 drawing and though he admitted that he only plays when the jackpot numbers are high, he said that on that partcular day, there was something special as his daughter told him to play. "That morning my daughter told me I should play," he said.

For some years, he and his family had been looking for a new house but as he sells heating and air conditioning systems, there was not enough money stored for that purpose. He told his daughter that if he wins big in the lottery, they can finally move into a bigger house.

"I think that's why she told me to play. She was sure I would win," he explained.

Many others aside from Tripodi have shared stories of lottery wins, with some admitting that either it was their first time to play, or they were lucky enough to finally get the winning numbers correctly.

Mega Millions will draw its next winning numbers for the amount of $161 million on Friday, May 13, 2016, 11 p.m. ET.
