Melissa Gilbert Injury on 'DWTS': 'I'm Alright' After Concussion, Whiplash

Melissa Gilbert's head injury, received during Monday's episode of "Dancing With the Stars," caused the 47-year-old actress to be hospitalized.

Melissa Gilbert's injury came during her paso doble dance with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The actress suffered from whiplash and a concussion; singer Gavin DeGraw "carried her down to the red room" because she was "too weak to walk," dancer Karina Smirnoff told Us Weekly.

"She hit her head during her dance, and then after she felt a little dizzy to they took her to the hospital just to get checked out and make sure she was okay," added Sherri Shepherd. "I think she'll be alright, though."

Despite the fall by both Gilbert and her partner, a slippery floor was deemed to be the culprit by judges, who still gave the dancing pair a generous 22 out of 30.

The thousands of viewers watching "DWTS" Monday night were remained unaware of Gilbert's serious condition until host Tom Bergeron informed them at the end of the program. At the close, when all the contestants would normally be present, Gilbert was absent.

"[Gilbert] injured herself and as a precaution she's gone to the hospital to get checked out," said the host.

Soon after, however, reports surfaced that Gilbert would be making a full recovery, and would most likely appear in the next episode of the popular television show.

"I'm alright," wrote Gilbert via her Twitter page. "Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of."

Her representative confirmed the tweet, telling CNN she was "looking forward to her next dance."

Although Gilbert's injury is unfortunate, it is certainly not the only one. Actress and television personality Maria Menounos broke two ribs and developed stress fractures in her feet from the training and practices.

Gilbert holds no grudges about the fall.

"@MaksimC you are my champion. I adore you," the "Little House on the Prairie" actress tweeted. "@GavinDeGraw bless your heart for carrying me down those stairs!"
