Miami Heat Roster Rumors: Dwyane Wade Becomes 41st Player in NBA to Score 20,000 Points

Miami Heat star guard Dwyane Wade has accomplished so many things in his career that he should be more than qualified for a Hall-of-Fame nomination in the not-so-distant future. Naming him as an NBA great isn't something one will argue with because he definitely will retire as one of the best shooting guards in the game's history.

Now the latest addition to his "legend" credentials is becoming the 41st player in NBA history to score 20,000 points. And there's no better way to achieve it than in a huge victory against their Eastern Conference rivals, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wade achieved the feat in the third quarter of Saturday night's 122-101 lopsided victory against LeBron James and the Cavs. After a dead ball situation, the milestone was recognized by the arena announcer, while his fans and teammates congratulated and cheered him on. After a standing ovation from the home crowd, James, a former teammate in Miami, approached him and gave a congratulatory pat. Both players, along with Chris Bosh, formed Miami's Big Three that won the NBA title in 2012 and 2013.

Wade talked to The Associated Press after the game, saying that he considers the achievement as a big deal for him. "I always thought, I don't know why, that 20,000 just seemed good… I wanted to be in that category," he said.

While the Heat star hasn't been the same explosive player he was during his first few years in the league, he still wins games for the only team he has played for all his career. He currently owns a career scoring average of 23.7 points per game, but his numbers don't show his natural ability to score when the team needs it the most.

Unlike other great players in his position, Wade does not have a deadly or super accurate outside shooting touch, but he thrived in the league carving his own niche comprised of fearless drives to the basket, fade away jumpers, and rim-rattling dunks.
