Miami Heat Trade Rumors 2016: Center Hassan Whiteside Being Eyed By Lakers?

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly keeping a close eye on the Miami Heat big man Hassan Whiteside.

According to a report by Mark Boogie for SBNation.com's Silver Screen & Roll, Whiteside is seen as a potential asset for the struggling Lakers, as the writer described him as a "Dwight Howard without the whining/insecurities/softness."

In another report by Alexander Louell Lopez for Vinereport, Whiteside could end up being a good replacement for Roy Hibbert, who is also reported to be on the Lakers' trading block, in time for the upcoming trade deadline on February 18th.

Louell's report adds that with Whiteside, the Lakers have a good chance of getting back to its championship form as he could be a great mix alongside the likes of Julius Randle, Larry Nance Jr., and Jordan Clarkson.

In contrast, another report by Tom West for Fansided notes that the 26-year-old professional basketball player is not always on the level of being a dominant big man, albeit having his moments of brilliance during games.

With that said, West says the Heat is actually "better of without Whiteside" on the floor during games.

"The offensive rating of their opponents drops by 4.9 when Whiteside is on the bench not in the game, and overall they lead by an average of 1.9 points per 100 possessions without him and only 0.7 with him," an excerpt of West's report reads.

The Sacramento Kings selected Whiteside in the second round (33rd pick overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft. He played with the Kings for two seasons, before jumping around a few D-League Teams, as well as playing in countries such as China and Lebanon.

The Miami Heat signed him in November 2014.

For the current season alone, Whiteside has played in 42 games in total and is averaging 12.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 3.9 blocks, and 0.6 steals, through 28.6 minutes of playing time per game.
