Miley Cyrus struck back at hateful tweets she received on the night of the Oscars Sunday. A Twitter user dedicated to disparaging the music star online took things too far.

Miley Cyrus responded to a Twitter user called @TheCyrusS--- who sent hateful tweets to the star about her clothing choices and general demeanor. The account sent her electronic messages claiming she "dresses like white trash," is "hideous," and even told her "to die."

The hateful and threatening tweets, which have since been deleted, caused Cyrus to respond, lambasting both the user for their messages and Twitter for allowing the slurs to continue.

"U have nothing better 2 do than hate? That saddens me. I'm surrounded by love Im sorry 4 whatever happened 2 make u so bitter," wrote Cyrus.

Cyrus lashed out at Twitter, urging them to do something about the incident, which has happened in the past.

"I won't tolerate someone telling me 2 die. I think Twitter needs to take some responsibility and make it a safe environment!" wrote the actress.

Twitter's official policy regarding threats, violence, or bullying on their social microblogging service is to allow users to monitor activity themselves. A user may block or report bad behavior, but that's about as far as the social networking site goes.

"If something has gone beyond the point of a personal conflict and has turned into actual violent threats that you feel are credible, call the police," Twitter representatives told The Huffington Post.

After the incident, Cyrus headed to Elton John's Oscar party, then to Vanity Fair's exclusive shindig. Accompanied by boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, the singer seemed determined not to let the death threats ruin her night.

"Thank you Sir Elton John for such a lovely night! Now to Vanity Fair," Cyrus tweeted. "I love all the glitz & glam of the oscars & celebrating such talent!"
