Missy Elliott's New Album Coming? 'I Just Ain't Telling Nobody When,' Says Rapper (VIDEO)

Missy Explains Hiatus From Music and the Creative Process That Earned Her 5 Grammys

Missy Elliott's comeback could happen sooner rather than later, as the rapper, producer and songwriter revealed that she is working on new material. She also explained why she essentially disappeared from the music scene at the top of her game, releasing her last album The Cookbook in 2005.

Missy Elliott said that her creative process pushes her to do the best she can, and that she won't release just any "microwave record" for the sake of releasing material.

"When I create something, it's gotta be special, and it can't just be to throw something out there because I feel like I'm Missy," she told "The Yo Show" host Michael Yo. "I gotta feel like what I'm giving the fans is 100 percent and that it's game-changing. I just don't throw out microwave records."

She also said that the music industry has changed. The nature of fast-paced, back-to-back albums year over year isn't the same game that she left in 2006, when she won a Grammy, an AMA, and was nominated for six VMAs as well.

"When you are creating to the magnitude that I try to create, I think your brain is like a computer sometimes, it needs to refresh," the rapper, whose real name is Melissa Arnette Elliott explained to Yo. "It didn't use to be like that, it used to be where your album was such a classic that it could go on for two years and then you drop another joint but it's now [faster]."

Still, the now 42-year-old rapper isn't close to being retired. She was teasing her seventh album, Block Party, since 2008, with singles "Ching-a-ling," "Best Best," "9th Inning" and "Triple Threat" coming out. It is unknown if the album still has the same title, but it for sure won't have the same material.

"Things happen in your life where you can then write something else instead of the same three topics— like how many times we gonna talk about the club?" Elliott said, adding that her album's release date is coming, but she "just ain't telling nobody when."

The producer has also been working on Faith Evans' new album.
