Montreal Canadiens NHL Trade Rumors: Greg Pateryn is on the Trading Block

When the Montreal Canadiens acquired defenseman Nikita Nesterov last month, it became quite clear that the amount of time Greg Pateryn gets on the ice was going to decrease significantly. He hasn't been playing much anyway before the deal went through, but now he has become expendable. According to Frank Seravalli of TSN Sports, the Canadiens have informed the rest of the teams that Pateryn was available for trade.

Something was bound to happen. After sitting out so many games as a healthy scratch this season, Pateryn did play against the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders this week, but a lot of observers have noted that the Canadiens were just playing him to showcase his skills for potential buyers before the deadline.

Pateryn actually did well when he was given the chance to play, so some pundits have wondered why they don't play him more. But at least he's playing now.

Pateryn's wife, Stefani, wasn't exactly pleased to see him sit out so many games and she has hinted that she'd rather see her husband traded by retweeting a comment made by a person named Mark Marengere. Stefani has already deleted her Twitter account, but a lot of people managed to get a screenshot of the retweet. The message goes as follows:

"If I was Pateryn I would ask for a trade before March 1st, he has no respect while Nestrov is playing awful."

Apparently, Stefani doesn't like her husband's coaches this season either and she criticized them on another tweet. Former coach Michel Therrien never gave him a chance and it looks like Claude Julien might not think highly of him either. Some have even suggested that the Twitter incidents might have convinced the Canadiens to trade him.

With a few days to go before the trade deadline, Pateryn has found himself on the trading block. Will he be wearing another uniform once the trade window closes?
