Once a user's Firefox browser has been updated, the Add-ons Compatibility Assistant feature will be enabled for use. This application will make all available add-ons for the browser visible to users.

Disabled add-ons will come with a valid reason for its exclusion and third-party add-on's can be checked before being downloaded for the browser.

A downloads entry in the history tab can now be accessed, as well. Users can access previous downloads from the same window they access previous websites.

Twitter support was added as a part of the web browser's search bar, and additional tab options are also being implemented. Tabs can now be loaded at a user’s request after a browser restart.

Firefox 8 comes only around six weeks after Firefox 7. This short release window is due to Mozilla's new rapid release strategy. This new initiative means a new version of Firefox is released every six weeks.

"There is work to be done to make the rapid release process smoother and hopefully more useful to more of our user base," said Mozilla’s chairperson Mitchell Baker.

"If we want the browser to be the interface for the Internet, we need to make it more like the Internet. That means delivering capabilities when they are ready. That means a rapid release process. If we don’t do something like this the browser becomes a limiting factor in what the Internet can do,” Baker added.

Mozilla Firefox 8 is being released to combat rival such as Google Chrome and Apple Safari.
