'Mrs. Doubtfire 2' Canceled After Robin Williams' Death?

Plans for a sequel to the hit movie "Mrs. Doubtfire" will most likely be shelved following the sad news about Robin Williams, who committed suicide at age of 63 Monday.

It was reported that the actor was attached to reprise his role as Daniel Hillard/Euphegenia Doubtfire in the sequel, and Williams had reportedly met with its screenwriter David Berenbaum in recent months, who was then working on a second draft of the script.

Chris Columbus was set to return as the film's director, and spoke out when Williams was found dead in his home.

"His performances were unlike anything any of us had ever seen, they came from some spiritual and otherworldly place. He truly was one of the few people who deserved the title of genius," said Columbus.

According to Variety, sources are saying that no final decision has yet been made on the project, but given that it has lost its protagonist, it is very possible that plans for the film will be scrapped.

The original "Mrs. Doubtfire" was based on the book by Anne Fine. It tells the story of Daniel Hillard, a struggling actor who disguises himself as an elderly English woman in order to secure a job as a housekeeper. Hillard, as Mrs. Doubtfire, managed to stay in the home that he once shared with his estranged wife so he could take care of his children.

The movie was a hit as it took in more than $400 million worldwide and was the second highest grossing movie of that year. Ever since then Fox has tried to get a sequel up and running, but apparently the company had trouble finding the right script for it.

Fans of the movie continue to enjoy seeing "Mrs. Doubtfire" as it is the most frequently played movie on basic cable.
