National Cat Day Today: Celebrate by Renting Kittens for Playtime

National Cat Day arrived Tuesday with people celebrating the love and affection found in cats all across the U.S.

Observed each year on Oct. 29, the holiday sees pet owners lavishing love and attention on their feline family members by petting them or even buying them special treats.

Fittingly, National Cat Day arrived just days before Halloween when celebrations also include cats, especially all-black ones. Black cats are associated with all things spooky, and they are also shrouded in the superstitious belief that it is bad luck for one to cross your path.

Nevertheless, National Cat Day is sweeping social media sites on Tuesday with many posting about their pets. On Twitter, #NationalCatDay became a trending topic.

"My cat shares Chex with me, tell me that's not the most adorable thing ever #NationalCatDay," wrote Taylor.

Haley added, "I heard its #NationalCatDay so here's to my sometimes lovable kitty Amara."

Twitter user Katherine dressed the part and shared a photo on National Cat Day, posting, "In honor of National Cay Day I'm wearing my cat dress #meow."

Furthermore, a new celebration of National Cat Day was introduced this year. In light of the feline-loving holiday, Uber has partnered with the popular meme site Cheezburger to deliver kittens to your office today.

For just $20, Uber will bring kittens to any location within the cities of New York, Seattle and San Francisco on Tuesday so that you can play and snuggle with them for 15 minutes anytime from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sign up by using your Uber App. The program is called "I Can Has UberKITTENS."

Moreover, all kittens used are adoptable and all proceeds are being donated to local animal shelters.

Needless to say, Uber's website warns that "access to on-demand kittens will be limited."
