NBA 2016-17 Season Update: Players Who are Likely to Make Successful Comeback; Can Ray Allen Join the Shootfest Trend?

Michael Jordan did it twice, so did Magic Johnson. The question now is who could make a really successful comeback this 2016-17 NBA season. Here is the list of big names eyeing for a different closure in their career. 

Can Ray Allen keep up with the 3-point trend?

Ray Allen is already 41 but considers a comeback either with the Boston Celtics or Milwaukee Bucks. Allen claims that he is still fit at his age and is preparing for this season.

Allen left decent statistics before a two-year retirement. If he can still pull the trigger, Allen may end up with a record 3,000 three-points made in regular games. The assumption is logical since it is risky to make him play other than shooting from the outside. Allen may not be a real threat to the Splash Brothers all because of age but he is still a shooter. He may still thrive considering that behind-the-arc offense is a trend in current NBA.

Will Baron Davis find a point guard opening?

Baron Davis is another veteran calling for second chance. He is absent in the NBA for the past four years. New York Knicks is said to be interested in signing him for a minimum veteran deal. He may be 38 but is still fit because of exposure in the D League.

One potential drawback for Davis' successful return is his position. Playing as a point guard is a bit problematic in 2016-17 season because younger explosive talents limiting the options. Besides, New York Knicks will field Derrick Rose this season so Davis may end in the reserve.

Is Emeka Okafor a good fit to play rim defense?

Emeka Okafor has to convince contenders Golden State Warriors or San Antonio Spurs that he can still defend the rim. Okafor has a good chance of proper closure in his career after leaving in 2013 because of herniated disc. Reports said that Okafor is eyeing a return either December or January. The late debut is because of extended rehabilitation for the former number 2 draft.

Okafor sports good stats in his stint with Washington Wizards. He left the team with 9.7 points per game and 8.8 rebounds. If Okafor can show that he can still do it, he may end well this season. The Warriors are probably the best option for him since they are scouting for a good center. Steve Kerr's team is an all-offensive team so adding a bit of rim defense is not a bad idea after all.
