NBA Trade Rumors 2017: Celtics Want Blake Griffin? Other Speculations Ahead of Deadline

The National Basketball Association's trade deadline is on Thursday and a lot of the trade rumors are still left unanswered. Among all the latest speculations and reports from "league sources," one that stands out is Boston's reported pursuit of Blake Griffin.

According to a report from ESPN, league sources have it that the Celtics and Clippers are "intermittently" discussing a possible deal that involves Griffin. However, the future of the negotiation seems bleak considering that Griffin will not join the free agency until this summer. With that, the Celtics would need to get the go signal first from the Clippers' front office before they can set a meeting with Griffin.

CBS Sports, however, notes that there is a very recent precedent making this rumored trade feasible for Thursday's deadline. The report cites Cousins' move to New Orleans as it recalled that the NBA All-Star player was all of a sudden moved to the Pelicans just days after Sacramento announced they were not giving him up.

Aside from Griffin's rumored transfer to Boston, NBA fans are on the lookout for other speculated trades.

Sports Illustrated noted that back in December, the Dallas Mavericks was believed to be a seller team for the looming trade deadline. However, the situation reportedly took a sudden turn after the team's recent wins gave them a good chance at the playoffs. The same report mentioned that the Mavericks have been pursuing a deal to get Philadelphia 76ers' Jahlil Okafor.

From the same SI report, Ricky Rubio is believed to be Minnesota's best option to offer if they ever want to acquire a new player for the team and if the team is in pursuit of Detroit's Reggie Jackson at the same time. SI shared that the Timberwolves are willing to move Shabazz Muhammad with Rubio to make the trade more likely.

On the other hand, as of Feb. 21, included in ESPN's rounded up trade rumors is Utah's hopes of reacquiring their 2005 NBA Draft, Deron Williams. Meanwhile, league sources has also reportedly shared that the Detroit Pistons are open to entertaining trade requests for their center player Andre Drummond.

Meanwhile, some of the biggest sealed trades even before the Thursday deadline involved Kyle Korver's move to Cleveland Cavaliers and DeMarcus Cousins' migration to the New Orleans Pelicans together with Sacramento teammate Omri Casspi.
