'NCIS' Season 12 Spoilers: DiNozzo in a New Relationship?

"NCIS" fans will have to do without Cote de Pablo returning this season, but that doesn't mean that writers have given up on the idea of love for one Tony DiNozzo.

"He went through a lot last year emotionally and tried to deal with Ziva's departure as he could," Gary Glasberg told TVLine. "If Tony's in a personal relationship or there's something significant happening for him and he wondered how Ziva would respond, then maybe we can figure out a way for Tony and Ziva to talk. We'll be mature about it and handle it properly, and Michael's excited about it."

Of course, there are those who desperately want to see de Pablo resume her role as Ziva David, but that's unlikely to happen. She will, however, be appearing on another series for CBS, "The Dovekeepers," based on a true story of women who held out hope when there was none.

This season, expect there to also be some traveling to New Orleans as CBS debuts "NCIS: New Orleans." So far, the four confirmed to guest star on the spin-off include DiNozzo, Sciuto, and Ducky, as well as main boss, Agent Gibbs.

"As for when and how often, there's a lot that goes into planning and schedules and making sure Mark is here with NCIS but we'll keep the balls in the air and make it work as well as we can," Glasberg told The Hollywood Reporter.

Things take a much more personal tone this season for Jimmy Palmer, who found out last season that he's going to be a dad, and McGee, whose relationship with Delilah is in question. Last year focused on a lot of action and, of course, saying goodbye to de Pablo, but now there is plenty of time to let the other stars shine and explore their storylines.

"NCIS" returns to CBS on Tuesday, September 23, followed by the series premiere of "NCIS: New Orleans."
