Talk of Possible Darrelle Revis-Patriots Reunion Gains Steam

The New England Patriots have been quite busy this offseason. The defending Super Bowl champions already have a formidable team before the free-agent signing period began, but they added more weapons to their arsenal by acquiring Stephon Gilmore and Brandin Cooks. However, there's still a gaping hole on their roster.

With Malcolm Butler's status still up in the air, the Patriots are in the market for a cornerback. Well, a controversial player happens to be available. According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, former Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis could be an option for the team and they should at least consider signing him.

"Don't discount the return of Darrelle Revis, now a free agent after being released by the Jets. One league executive said the Patriots "are the only team that makes sense" to sign Revis, as not many teams have a need for an expensive, aging cornerback with questionable work ethic. But Belichick could get the most out of Revis and find a way to use him — maybe not as a starting cornerback, but certainly as a depth piece at corner or strong safety," Volin said in his report.

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald also agreed that the Patriots should consider a reunion with Revis and she believes that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick can bring the best out of the veteran cornerback.

The question is, do the Patriots want Revis back? He carries a lot of personal baggage and he has already burned a lot of bridges since he left. Money could be an issue as well. Will Revis take a huge pay cut? The Patriots are not going to give him a big paycheck if he signs with them.

Revis has been garnering a lot of attention lately for all the wrong reasons, but he can resurrect his career if he joins the Patriots.
