The New York Giants will clash with the Detroit Lions on Sunday in the penultimate week of the NFL 2013 regular season schedule. The Lions still have a very outside chance at making the playoffs but they will have to win today against the Giants as well as next week to even stand a chance. The game will start at 4.05 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).
The Lions are currently on 7-7 and are sitting in the 9th seed spot for the NFC Conference. They have lost form at the wrong end of the season and are now sliding back; another loss today will end their postseason hopes. They have lost three of their last four games; 21-24 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20-34 to the Philadelphia Eagles, and 16-18 to the Baltimore Ravens last week. Their only win was a 40-10 smash down of the Green Bay Packers in Week 13.
They need to get back to winning ways and immediately if they are to even stand a chance. However, even if they do win out they still are by no means guaranteed to make the postseason now.
They play the Giants today before going on the road to face the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday in their last game of the regular season.
On Tuesday, Lions coach Jim Schwartz was asked whether quarterback Matthew Stafford was in danger of being benched. That is how bad things have gotten. Stafford is 324 of 559 for 4,211 yards and 28 touchdowns, and he has helped the Lions to rank 3rd in the NFL for total yards gained per game (405.2 yards) as well as total yards posted in the air per game (292.4 yards).
At certain points in the season the Lions have been one of the most impressive in the NFL this season. However, any more losses now will see them wiped out and all that hard work will have been wasted.
The division is likely to go down to Week 17, however, for the Lions to even have a look in they must defeat the mediocre New York Giants today.
