New York Jets Consider Drafting Mitchell Trubisky

Josh McCown may have joined the New York Jets earlier this week, but everyone knows that he's just a stopgap starter at quarterback until the team finds a young quarterback they can develop and bring along slowly. With this in mind, the Jets will check out the top quarterbacks available in this year's draft.

Former University of North Carolina (UNC) quarterback Mitchell Trubisky happens to be on top of the list and he has certainly caught the Jets' attention.

NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes has reported that the team has sent six officials to check out Trubisky at UNC's pro day on Tuesday. However, Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan and head coach Todd Bowles were not there to see the young quarterback show off his skills.

After the workout, Trubisky told reporters that the Jets happen to be one of the several teams that have scheduled private workouts with him, and they are also bringing him in for a pre-draft visit. The Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers have also scheduled individual workouts with the signal caller.

The Jets already have two young quarterbacks in Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty, but it appears that they are not afraid to add one more if they believe he has a tremendous upside.

"If the Jets have a strong conviction in Trubisky, they're going to draft him regardless of which quarterbacks are already on the roster. The notion that 2017 second-round pick Christian Hackenberg's presence will prompt the Jets from eschewing a quarterback in the upcoming draft is silly," Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News said in his report.

"Although there's a belief in the organization that new quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates will be able to set Hackenberg on the right path, the powers that be aren't going to shy away from a potential franchise quarterback in the upcoming draft because of his presence," he continued.
