The New York Knicks have had their worst start in franchise history, and may now be leaning on the Bible to get them through it.

With rookie coach and five-time championship winner Derek Fisher leading them, the Knicks have lost their last eight games, leaving them in 14th place in the Eastern conference. The Knicks have had their worst start after 20 games for any of the franchise's teams dating back to it's first season in 1946-'47.

According to The Wall Street Journal's Chris Herring, the team had a Bible verse written on a whiteboard in the locker room Sunday, which may be helping the players get through the challenges they face.

"Bible scripture up on Knicks' white board in locker room. 'The pain you've been feeling can't compare to the joy that is coming.' Romans 8:18," Herring tweeted Sunday.

Phil Jackson, the Knicks' president who is best known as an 11-time championship winning NBA coach, said his team's mentality may need more work than their skills on the court.

"It's about a loser's mentality," Jackson said on Monday in an ESPN report. "It's not about the skill or the talent level."

Still, Jackson has hope the team can turn things around.

"The process, maybe the heat, is going to refine some of the stuff so that we come out and be a pretty good team after all is said and done," he said.

Despite the rough first leg of the season, Fisher said he's optimistic about turning the season around.

"Our record is on my record. But I'm still optimistic about there being better days ahead," Fisher said in a New York Post report. "And that's what has to drive us right now. Not to accept where we are but just to continue to work through it and knowing we can get better if we keep working.''
