These two teams fought all season for the AL East title, with the Yankees settling things right at the end of the regular season. It has been exciting to see how both sides maintained the pressure on one another as the regular season came to a close, and how the Yankees managed to just pull through. They will now renew their rivalry right away, as they face off in the play offs for the first time since 1996's AL championship series.

The Yankees had pulled well ahead of the Orioles in the early part of the season and at one point had a 10 game division lead over them. However, the Orioles put together a run of 46-24 compared to the Yankees 37-33 record to ensure their rivalry went right to the wire. However, ultimately the Orioles fell short after losing two of their final three games against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Orioles were not to be deterred however, and they defeated the Texas Rangers in a one game wild card playoff on Friday 5-1, to ensure they faced off against the Yankees today.

The Yankees have had slightly more time to rest for this encounter, and early indications are that they will start with veteran C.C. Sabathia, who has a 16-4 career record against Baltimore.

Baltimore will attempt to counter the Yankees fierce hitting power with Jason Hammel, who boasts a record of 8-6 with a 3.43 ERA this season. However, he has pitched only two times since July 17 due to knee surgery, and the Yankee hitters may be able to take advantage. New York scored the second-most runs in the MLB this season, and if they click today it could prove serious problems for the Orioles.

Tonight's game between the Yankees and the Orioles starts at 6.07 p.m. and can be watched on TBS. However, MLB.com and TBS are both offering packages to watch the MLB Playoffs online.

On MLB.tv a postseason package is available for just $24.99, and that includes live streaming, HD quality video, in-game stats and highlights and more. Sign up by clicking here.
