With 33 points so far this season, United are three points behind Tottenham Hotspur for the last UEFA Champions League spot, while trying to fend off challenges from West Ham United and Crystal Palace who are behind one and two points, respectively.
Newcastle are clearly struggling as they have not won in their last four games in the Premier League.
The last victory they had was away against Tottenham when they got a surprise 2-1 victory.
They followed it up with a 1-1 draw against Villa at home and then three straight defeats to Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Arsenal are sure signs that they are in trouble and may cause panic for the team.
If they want to turn things around, then a big win against a strong club in United is needed as it will surely help them in regaining their confidence.
Meanwhile, the same can also be said for United who just recently broke their winless run in the league with a victory over Swansea City.
Before that, United were winless in their last six, only getting three points off that stretch.
In their first meeting this season, both teams settled for a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.
