Nexus 5 Price Set for $450 on Sprint, Deal Comes with 1 Free Year of Talk and Text

The Nexus 5 price is set for $450 for students looking to purchase the device through Sprint.

By paying the full price for the handset upfront, they will get access to a special promotion which gives them one free year of talk and text plus 1GB of data with an unlimited or my way plan.

For those who think that amount of data is insufficient, Sprint is offering an unlimited plan for just $10 per month. Once the year is finished, those who purchased the smartphone with the promotion will have to pay the plan at its regular price.

The promotion requires buyers to be active students enrolled in a U.S.-based elementary school, middle school, high school, college, or university of accredited institute.

Sprint is also offering other devices with the promotion including the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, LG G2, HTC One and Moto X. Users would have to pay the full price for any of those devices in order to access the free year of talk and text.

Google launched the Nexus 5 last month. Specifications on the device include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor running at up to 2.3GHz, a 4.96-inch LCD 1080p display, 2GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, 16 or 32GB internal memory, a 2300 mAh battery and an 8-megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilization. It is also one of the first devices to run Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

The handset is currently available in the Google Play store off-contract for just $349. Sprint and various carriers charge customers an extra $100 because that it what they have to pay Google per device. Google is able to discount it since the sales process takes place in house.
